Question: What to bring on a school indoor camping trip?
I’m going on a Leadership Indoor Camping Trip with my school next week, and they didn’t give us a list of things to bring. I know that it is classified as “Indoor camping” because we will be staying in bunks and there are indoor bathrooms. What do you bring when you go camping with school?
Answer by staggmovie
I would denfily would want to bring a change of clothes, and maybe some snacks as long as your school approves of them. Can’t forget the s’mores, but since you are staying inside of the school, and in less they have a fire ring outside of the school, and in less they let you go outside, I don’t know how you will be able to roast the marshallows. I bet that you wouldn’t want to bring a tent, but maybe sleeping bag. But maybe if I were you, I would ask the person that is charge of this indoor camping trip, ideas of what to bring. But maybe some books, or music if you get bored.

Question: What would I need to bring on a camping trip with a newborn?
Every year my husband and I go camping with friends and family for a weekend July. This year it will be a little different now that we’ll have a 5 week old baby with us. I just want to make sure I pack everything I’ll need for her.

Be careful cause newborns can catch things really easily. Also all the bugs around, if he/she got bit, WHO KNOWS WHATLL HAPPEN?!

Question: What is a really good place to go on a hiking and camping trip for several days in Texas?
My buddies and I want to go on a backpacking trip for 4-5 days and rough it. We live in central texas and are willing to drive a little if need be. Near a lake would be great if we want to go swimming but we are looking somewhere with alot of secluded trails with great scenery and challenging hiking
Answer by lestermount
Challenging hiking with secluded trails would be in Big Bend.
Something less remote would be East Texas in Tyler state park or farther South in one of the National Forests.
Question: What is some good food to take on a hiking trip?
I am going on a hiking trip on the Pacific Crest Trail and I am not sure what kind of food to take. I don’t have a bear proof can or bear proof bags. I am looking for food that bears will not be able to smell. I am not sure if bears can smell canned food like Chili or Chicken Noodle Soup. If you know what kind of food fits what I am asking please answer. Thanks.
Answer by bluepenguin
Don’t risk it! My advice to you is to buy bear proof bags, your life is worth that investment. When you are on your trip make sure to hang the bags of food on a tree branch a good 5-10 yards away from where you are sleeping so, for one the mice and other small rodents can’t get into it and also if the bears happen to come by they won’t have a reason to be poking around where you are sleeping.
Freeze-dried foods. If you go to a local outdoor/backpacking kind of store (Outdoor Gear Exchange,or Eastern Mountain Sports) the usually have racks of freeze-dried camping foods where you just add hot water and viola! you have chili or some other kind of soup, etc.
Instant oatmeal, instant coffee, instant hot chocolate, cup-a-soup, all of this things are real light (just little packets) and really quick and easy to make in the morning or when your really hungry and want food quick.
Power bars, Cliff bars and any other bar that is in that aisle at the grocery store is great as a quick energy booster on a long hike, or a snack before you reach camp.
there are so many different kinds it doesn’t matter what you get, just get something along the lines of gatorade powder, that you can pour in your water bottle on those days when its really hot, your breaking out a sweat and you really need to replenish all of those lost sodium, sugar…etc.
