Question: Where should i start a one year camping trip in California?
I am planning on taking a bus to California by Dec., taking only camping gear, and seeing what happens. I plan on finding some work before leaving, but i will leave work or no work. I would like to rough it for at least a year, where is a good location for me to start out? Provided I have little to no knowledge of the area and only what is strapped to my back.

if your going to start in the winter…start in the SOUTH.
Summer start in the North. But what ever you do Go TO YOEMITE and plan to stay at the very least a week NO MATTER what time of year it is. Great camping and hiking, rafting, bikes, etc.

I went last year at midnight, and there was already a small crowd of people there. Maybe go around 11:00 p.m.
Last year at 2:00 a.m. they passed out tickets to the people who were already waiting in line so they would have priority on the doorbusters they came for.

Question: Where is the best place to start hiking on the Appalachian trail?
I am planning a 5 day unsupported trip with a freind. We are looking for the best place to start hiking in the northeast. Anyone have any favorite spots they liked?

My two favorite points are…
Route 7 at Weather Mountain. (aka: Snickers Gap)
or
Route 340 at the VA/WV border.
I like these spots because they both have decent parking areas to leave your vehicle for a few days.
A bit more advice here too. I would highly suggest you try a day hike starting at each of these locations to see how you like the parking areas and the starting points.
Also, do NOT use the shelters they have on the AT. Most shelters are located in close proximity to the highways. This means that the local riffraff like to use them for underage drinking and a place to use illegal narcotics. Take biker/hiker tents and camp in a nice safe spot off of the trail and away from the roadways.
Question: When do boy dogs start hiking their legs to pee?
My Boston Terrier is almost 5 months old, and squats to pee. When do they start hiking their legs? Does he need a boy dog to show him how?

Some never do…which is usually my hope with my dogs.
