Question: Can someone tell me some fun things to do in the brooklyn area for a 13 year old?
Answer:
Answer by Sprinter
I lived in Brooklyn when I was 13 and it’s full of neat things to do. The Brooklyn Public Library main branch on Grand Army Plaza has an incredible assortment of books and kept me entertained for hours at a time. Prospect Park, a one-minute walk from the library, is a tremendously diverse and entertaining place. My friends and I used to go “mountain climbing” then (before we had ever seen real mountains). When I was 13, I was into photography and there are all kinds of things to photograph around Brooklyn. Start at the Brooklyn Museum, a few blocks from Grand Army Plaza. Then follow Fort Hamilton Parkway (I did it on a bicycle at 13) to 69th Street (the street signs call it Bay Ridge Avenue) and follow 69th Street to the pier. You can photograph the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty from there. Follow Shore road to 101st Street and pass under the Verazanno Bridge. Go back up to Fort Hamilton Parkway and see a huge cannon that defended NY harbor from attack by the British after the War of 1812. Then folow Fort Hamilton Parkway downtown a few blocks to see a church where Robert E. Lee was among the better known active members when he was a young Army officer at Fort Hamilton. Enjoy!
Question: What would be some good vegetarian food to bring or cook while camping?
I’m going camping tonight with a vegetarian, and I was wondering what some good meal recommendations might be.

Fruit and nuts, lol.
Most tinned foods, beans and spaghetti are easy to transport. Simple packet pasta mixes, You’ve got to think about what you will be cooking with, I’m assuming a pot and water, maybe milk as well. Then think about how much you need and how it fits into your pack. Cereal is a winner on camps, light, filling and nutritious.
Question: Can you suggest some healthy food ideas for camping?
Normally DH and I will just have mets off of the grill, but I am trying to tone up so I don’t want to eat a lot of junk. Anyone have any ideas / recipes for things to make while camping? We have a grill I can use, but we only have the fire lit after dark so I cannot cook on it.

Question: What is some good food to take on a hiking trip?
I am going on a hiking trip on the Pacific Crest Trail and I am not sure what kind of food to take. I don’t have a bear proof can or bear proof bags. I am looking for food that bears will not be able to smell. I am not sure if bears can smell canned food like Chili or Chicken Noodle Soup. If you know what kind of food fits what I am asking please answer. Thanks.

Don’t risk it! My advice to you is to buy bear proof bags, your life is worth that investment. When you are on your trip make sure to hang the bags of food on a tree branch a good 5-10 yards away from where you are sleeping so, for one the mice and other small rodents can’t get into it and also if the bears happen to come by they won’t have a reason to be poking around where you are sleeping.
Freeze-dried foods. If you go to a local outdoor/backpacking kind of store (Outdoor Gear Exchange,or Eastern Mountain Sports) the usually have racks of freeze-dried camping foods where you just add hot water and viola! you have chili or some other kind of soup, etc.
Instant stuff:
Instant oatmeal, instant coffee, instant hot chocolate, cup-a-soup, all of this things are real light (just little packets) and really quick and easy to make in the morning or when your really hungry and want food quick.
Energy bars:
Power bars, Cliff bars and any other bar that is in that aisle at the grocery store is great as a quick energy booster on a long hike, or a snack before you reach camp.
Drink Powder;
there are so many different kinds it doesn’t matter what you get, just get something along the lines of gatorade powder, that you can pour in your water bottle on those days when its really hot, your breaking out a sweat and you really need to replenish all of those lost sodium, sugar…etc.

Wow, camping at Six Flaggs? How much fun do you want to have. First you will have all your rides and shows to watch. Then after hours you get to stay in your tents. Are you cooking outside or buying food from the concession stand? Hide and seek in the dark in the park would be a lark! Enjoy yourself.

You could make some spider webs and put them on your tent. You could wrap some lights around some brooms(Battery operated if no electricity). You could place pumpkins (real or fake) at the entrance of your tent. Just use your imagination or check out some websites on Halloween decorating. But have fun.
