Question: Is there anywhere I can go camping in Achill without going to a campsite?
Theres aroubd 12 of us and we want to go camping in Achill. Has anyone been camping there anywhere without getting moved on?
Answer by kavekarst
When I’m where I’d like to go camping and there is no posted location
for such activity I’ll start looking for buildering locations. These can include abandoned industrial facilities, unrented commercial structures,
or the larger bridges. Mid-span river channel footing is best by Abseil
and Jumar on fixed sheathed kernmantle tied to a steel support. Free
climbing a static rope tends to kill too easily. Technical climbing skills
let me scale man-made materials that face various high-rise. Rooftop tenting rarely has another party scaling same structure for over-night use. Never open any doors or windows. No campfires. Throwing hot
squat at passer-by also is ill-advised. Try to act like a conundrum.
Two is a crowd in my opinion. I can see how around twelve
could be a handful. If your party lacks any buildering expertise
then Plan “B” would be to start lifting man-hole covers. Most have a
fixed metal ladder inside. Antique stores usually sell required entry tool for a song. Electrical conduit junction vaults could easily handle twelve campers, are usually dry, and vent the heat. Do not piddle on cables as they aren’t idiot-proof. Can’t recommend storm drains or sewers but abandoned cellars can sometimes be had by inspecting leveled districts that were rezoned commercial or industrial.
Beware of brush covered wells or privy shafts.

Question: What are the chances of getting ticks after going hiking?
I’m in the Dominican Republic on vacation and I went hiking on a mountain. It was grassy, and I know you can get ticks from being in a grassy area so I’m afraid I may have gotten ticks.
It rained on the way back so any ticks that were unattached may have fallen off and when I got home I checked myself but found nothing and showered right away just in case. But now I’m really itchy and I’m checking myself again but I’ve found nothing.

I got a tick on me after i’ve hiked before but I just happen to feel one on my head and i just pulled it out, threw it and started freaking out. I don’t think that I found any ticks on me after I took a shower, your probably just paranoid, I’ve only got ticks on one hike i’ve went on and i’ve been on about 6. This one was really out in the forest and that’s how i got it.
Question: How to half cook bacon to take camping and finsih cooking it there with out it going bad?
My husband and kids are going camping for 3 days and want to take bacon with them but dont want it to go bad after the first day. He (My husband) wants me to cook it halfway so that he dont have to put it in the cooler and it stay good is this possible and if so how do i do it.
Answer by ohgerr
Anything you buy at a modern grocery store will have to be fully cooked and refrigerated.
“Real” old fashion bacon is brined in salt until cured (chemically cooked), then smoked in a smoke house to preserve the meat. It’s not quite the same thing sold now-a-days. It keeps for weeks just wrapped in paper.
Ask at a butcher shop….try trail baloney….or jerky….canned corned beef….

Question: I am going to give a presentation on a song.?
I need to analyze the song by finding a theme and connecting to the lyrics.
After the presentation I need to write a 1000 word essay.
The song can’t be more than 4min and I am finding a song which is not a love song.
I would like someone to help my presentation and finding a song.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
ex. I thought Miley Cyrus’s “The Climb” would be an easy one because it “Climb” is pan for climbing the mountain and overcoming a trail. Like this one I have to find metaphors and other devices from the lyrics.
Answer by Damocles
Dust in the Wind, by Kansas.
3 minutes, 20secomnds. Not a love song. Good music. Plenty of metaphors and symbolism.
Question: Is it important to have hiking shoes instead of sneakers when going hiking?
My 18 year old nephew is going out to Yellowstone to work for the summer. He has sneakers, good pair that fit him correctly, but I don’t know whether those will serve him well while hiking on his days off. What are the benefits of buying actual hiking footwear? Is it imperative to have them?
Answer by the_guy_in_alberta
A good pair of lightweight sneakers will do the trick for a few day hikes and the odd over-nighter. The benifit to buying specifically made hiking runners are that they will probably last a lot longer. Although you read stories about people hiking the entire length of the Appalachian Trail with a set of Wal-mart runners. The choice really comes down to how big your wallet is and how much of it you want to fork out. Of course if he intends on scrambling up a mountain or crossing numerous snowfields he may want something like a light pair of hiking boots.
