A small project. An old butcher blade take life again like a small parang knife. This is the CC-knife (from Camping & Chopper) :-) The idea is from a knife made by Smokepole (member of the British Blade Forum) and I thank him very much!

MEC in Montreal offers a wide range of winter sleeping bags. Crawling into a sleeping bag that you know is going to be warm and comfortable is one of the singular pleasures of backcountry adventure. Just as a good sleeping bag can make for a good night’s sleep, an ill-suited one can spell discomfort or worse.

When considering cooking on a camping trip, it’s important to remember that block ice is better than ice cubes, and that cooking over an open fire is best achieved through hot coals and not open flames. Question: Where is the closest absolute remote camping site to Philadelphia?
I’m a country boy stuck in the city and am really craving some good bushwhack camping. I don’t want anything even resembling a plug in camp site. I’d like a hike at least a couple of miles, then be able to set up camp wherever I choose, build a big fire, maybe shoot off some rounds, etc. I’m willing to drive, but Allegheny is pretty far. Is there anywhere closer?

Answer:

Answer by Freall
Go up the north east extension (rt. 476) to the Poconos. There’s good camping anywhere north of the Allentown exit.

About an hour and 20 minutes to Jim Thorpe from Philly.

If your really willing to drive, I suggest the Lake George or Champlain area in upstate NY. It’s about 7 hours from Philly, but blows away anything PA has to offer.
