Thru-hiker Dusty aka Particle hand-picked the yummiest part of the Appalachian Trail for this tenderfoot to hike for three days and guided us. We hiked in Shenandoah National Park, in Virginia, and we agree this was a perfect spot for a casual hiker to taste almost everything the Trail has to offer, minus the despair. First day, hiked 8 miles from Big Meadows Campground to Skyland, then made friends and got a lift back to the campground. Next day, we drove to and parked at Skyland, and hiked 6 miles to the Byrd’s Nest 3 shelter for a backwoods overnight. Next day we hiked 4 miles to the rest area at Thornton’s Gap and then caught a ride back to the car at Skyland. Don’t miss the famous and delicious blackberry milkshakes in Shenandoah. And don’t forget to purchase a camping pass. When i saw the 97 degrees on your car, my face went down thinking of how lucky you are. I’m in Michigan and we just had a horrible blizzard!!!
A.T. GA>ME 2011!!!
@killdaclownz No way! That would have made that hike even cooler. Schools Rulez
I did that hike
I did that hike 2 years ago and halfway up guess who I ran into???
DAVE SCHOOLS!!!
Crazy coincidence huh?
i climbed it 2 days ago. get there early or the guard will turn you away.
I started around 6:30am . takes almost 2 hourd to get to the top. well worth it.
guard was there on the way down. he just asked me to leave and gave me the best directions to do so.
@Archranger7894 nice. Im hoping to hike this within the next few weeks. been trying to do my research
so sounds like they arent too worried about hikers huh
@ebruno61805 were they fined? what happened? I am here now..been researching. I am confident about getting up there ok. but worried about getting greeted like that on my way down.
Had some friends go, they left early before the guards got there and on their way back they were greeted with a “Good Morning Trespassers” lol
great music with the hiking adventure love it!
wow beautiful day, i havnt gotten to do this hike yet. Looks pretty rough lol, but certainly worth it.
Awesome Video.
stairway to heaven huh…one wrong step outside the trail it’s stairway to hell……man that’s a steep ass hill to climb…….guards? what guards?..why did they shut it down for? where is this at?……I gotta admit, I kinda caught myself catching my own breah lil bit watching this vid…I’d like to know the person who came up with the idea building this.
OMG YOU GUYS ACTUALLY WENT UP THERE…I WOULD BE SCARED
@BiZATCh808 Some locals probably do this too. They just don’t record.
Amazing view but seems really scary and a lot of work.
@BiZATCh808 Cuz’ Mokes are just to fat and lazy to make it up?
super cool hike!
The city built steps & gate to the access road. Agreement with Hope Chapel was found illegal. Hope Chapel has sublease from Brothers of the Sacred Heart. When all lawyers got involved, the city could not meet their liability requirements. The city then tried a property swapuntil attorneys found a paragraph in the deed preventing a trade. Then Mayor Jeremy’s term ended & efforts dropped. A trail from the District Park, thru WCC campus & past HSH to the access road -not optimal- is possible.
sketch? or still legit?
Great hiking vid! Hand rails on the trail? Don’t see that, very much. Looks like it was fun! For the video music, I definitely would’ve had the Led Zepellin tune, of the same name.
